About Chiel
Chiel Zuidgeest is a Dutch artist based in Utrecht, Netherlands.
Chiel uses analogue practices such as oil painting, printmaking and oil pastels to create unique tangible works. With his history of animation and filmaking he also uses his analogue works in combination with digital practises. He explores how image can evolve into carriers of meaning, where analogue and digital work come together to reinforce on another.
Driven by philosophical, poetic, and societal questions, Chiel uses his practice to tell unique stories. Through layering, rhythm, and subtle shifts, the work creates space for interpretation and personal association.
Rather than simply informing, Chiel’s work aims to engage and inspire the viewer.
